Why we are (and can) do what were doing:
The Seattle SuperSonics are an NBA team. For the last several seasons attendance and community support for the team has fallen
apart. Not to mention that they play in one of the oldest arenas in the NBA, Key Arena. It has been said multiple times that
where the team plays (Seattle) is not a good place to play. More money goes out than comes in and the ownership isn't rich
which is a bad combination.
After a disagreement between the team and the city of Seattle over renovating Key Arena the Basketball Club of Seattle
(the owners at the time) put up the team up for sale. The team was bought by Professional Basketball Club, LLC. The group
was led by Clay Bennett who says he would like to move the team to his hometown of Oklahoma City if plans for a new arena
fall through. However, the team also talked to officials in Kansas City about relocating there. Anyway, plans for an arena
did fall through (after multiple tries to avoid this outcome) and the group now wants the team out of it's lease at Key Arena.
However, Seattle is putting up a fight to keep the Sonics in Seattle. Not by ordering a new arena, not by renovating the existing
arena, but by arguing that the lease can't be broken.
The NBA is behind the team plans to moves because of the above reasons that the team is losing lots of money in Seattle.
However, that doesn't mean the league is completely ready for the team to call Oklahoma City home. Not that they would care
either way, but room for a consideration of a different city is possible. That is where Cincinnati comes in.
I feel that Cincinnati is a better option because of Cincinnati's history of great basketball. Cincinnati has tremendous
following for all of it's high school and college basketball teams(several schools average sellouts nightly) especially it's
three division one teams in UC(Big East), XU(A10), and Miami, of Ohio, (MAC). Plus, Cincinnati is home to a number of major
league sports teams that also have tremendous following which shows Cincinnati can support Major League Sports. Oklahoma City
has no division one college teams and nor do they have any major league sports teams.
So in short, Cincinnati is a much better choice. However, Cincinnati will only be that choice by you helping. If you want
to help you have come to the right place. Check out the tabs on the side for ways to help. Go Sonics!
